Poetry Readings

On December 13th, I read my poem, “Chinatown,” as part of The Rattling Wall Issue 3 Book Tour at Book Soup.  It was an honor to read at this amazing book stored with other great poets, fiction writers, and essayists.

On April 16, 2011, I read some of my poetry at Sweatstock, an outdoor rock concert hosted by Sweat Records in Little Haiti.  I read with Abel Folgar as part of the O, Miami Festival.  Scott Cunningham and the O, Miami crew created this video.

 
When I was living in Miami, a great program called Lip Service started.  It was a reading event at Books & Books in Coral Gables, which was created by Andrea Askowitz and Esther Martinez.  Great people.  Great event.  Great book store.  I submitted a poem called, “Ode to the Blonde, Long-Legged, Italian Model.”  It was selected, and I was lucky enough to read at the event.  The poem is in the point of view of my alter ego–an attempt at creating a character like a Slim Shady, Mr. Hyde, or Sasha Fierce.  My alter ego was named Sex Moses–a character who embodied a spirit I felt when I was living in Miami Beach.  So, here is Sex Moses at Books & Books.

Music

When I was a student in the MFA Program at Florida International University, I used to play a piano in a common area.  In between classes, I would try and write songs.  So one day, I took my computer and recorded a sonata I had been writing.  Here it is:

Just for Fun

I used to the be one of the hosts of a reading series at the Luna Star Cafe in North Miami Beach.  Alexis, the owner, was awesome.  We used to hang around after it was over and play some music.  Esther Martinez captured this video, and I think it’s just fun.

Drew Storm Graham came over to our house in Miami Beach.  He was a part of an art show  in the 2010 Art Basel.  His work is amazing, combining graffiti and wood.
